SEO and SEM defined

SEO/SEM

So what is the difference between SEO and SEM or search engine optimisation and search engine marketing? I will cover this in several blog posts, initially SEO, then later looking at SEM. Search engine optimisation an integral part of any web strategy, it is the on-page and off-page actions which determine how you organically rank in search engines. To clarify, setting up each of your landing pages (any page in your website that a person can come to as their first page) in the best way for search engines to read and rank them. As the most used search engine, Google’s one and only objective is to keep you coming back to their site. In order to do this, they want to ensure that every time you search for something, the most relevant articles, websites and blogs come up. This ensures you are satisfied with with the results and in turn their service.

This is the one and only reason that google is interested in your website. Google ranks sites in order of the ‘readable’ relevancy to the word or phrase typed into the search field. The ‘readable’ if where you come in. There are several things you can do to your site to increase the readability for google and therefore your chance at being picked to rank highly for certain search terms. In total there are 12 things that google analyses to determine where you organically (non paid) rank. I will go through these 12 key secrets in my next post.

Until next time,
